Burnley Golf Club’s Fourball Betterball Open Christmas competition was won by Gary Owen and Dave Ellison of Birchwood with 43 points, including a hole in onw at the 14th - a 181-yard shot!
Second were Darren Jennings and Martin Leach of Burnley, with 41 points, on the card from clubmates Andy Perry and Eric Hargreaves.
Eric won the nearest-the-pin competition on the 7th - a 199-yard par 3, at 4ft 6ins from the hole.
Week nine of the Winter League saw David Owen and Colin Weston beat Steve Butschok and Vishal Tripathi; Darren Jennings and Martin Leach beat Ben Pate and Rob Skeath; Alan Rigby-Lovat and Mick Chambers beat Paul Swain and Brian Smith; Nick Macadam and Ewan Macadam beat Jeremy Shirt and Matthew Shirt; Macaulay Walton and Liam Dixon beat Alun Jones and Glen Shiel, and Mark McEvoy and Maureen Barson halve their match with David Gray and David Robinson.
Nearest the pin at the 14th was Alan Rigby-Lovat at 6ft 10ins from the hole.
Jonathan Turner posted an excellent score of 44 points to win the latest round of the Winter League at Towneley Golf Club.
Mick Gorton took second spot on the card from Patrick O’Hare, both players with 43 points.
Nearest the pin awards went to Anthony Hargreaves at the 6th hole and Ian Ponton at the 17th.
Ian Metcalfe had a great Christmas of golf by winning the Boxing Day competition with an impressive total of 43 points on the card from the evergreen P.J. Price.
Then on the Saturday, Metcalfe’s good run of form continued when he totalled 39 points to top the field in the Winter League.
