Towneley Golf Club hosted the fourth monthly medal qualifier at the weekend, with the top three players to go through to the monthly medal final.
There they have the chance to win the prestigious major and have their name on the board in the clubhouse forever.
John “The Smasher” Warren won Division One with a score of 78-12-66, on the card from runner-up Paul Keenan (75-9-66), with Brian Taylor (74-8-66) in third.
Billy Thompson, who is proving to be a bit of a bandit at the minute with his current run of tremendous form in recent weeks, won Division Two with a score of 80-17-63 - one shot better than James Robertshaw (78-14-64), with John Mantle (81-15-66) in third position.
Dennis Harker also had a brilliant round to post an 88-21-67 to win Division Three.
He won by a shot from Peter Witt, who carded 88-20-68, with Hyme Clarke a further stroke adrift after a round of 88-19-69.
All three winners from each division qualified, and will all compete in the monthly medal final later in the year.
l Captain’s Day at Whalley recently produced a comprehensive winner.
Dan Rogers won with 77-13-64, four shots clear of Martin Crabtree (85-17-68).
Martin also had a two on the long par 4 10th hole.
Third was Peter Harper (86-18-68).
Gary Meakin had the best front 9 (33.5), and the best back 9, with the same score, came from Gary Kirk.
Nearest the pin with his second shot on the 17th hole was P. Campbell, and nearest the pin on the 18th hole - 55mm - was John Heap.
The seniors’ prize went to Howard Walmsley (89-18-71).
