Burnley RUFC firsts had another good win at Ormskirkon Saturday, securing a bonus-point victory late in the game

Burnley’s flying winger Tom McGuiness opened the scoring for the locals, before the home side hit back with a well-worked converted try.

They increased their lead through a penalty to lead 10-5 at the half.

Jack Donovan had a strong carry which Adam Wallis finished off, and Sam Mounsey added the conversion.

Burnley were on top, and a clever kick by Simon Finnan led to Lee Ferrier beating his man to score out wide.

Ormskirk hit back with a converted try to regain the lead, before Paul Mallaband stole a lineout, fed Tom Ives into a gap, and he drew his man then fed replacement Will Farnworth, who ran in to score.

The final 15 minutes were a tense affair as Burnley’s defence faced a stern examination, but they were excellent as the game finished 22-17.

Burnley Under 13s had an excellent 31-17 cup win at Tarleton. Scorers were Morgen Williams with four tries and a conversion, Bram Richmond with a try, and Charly Haynes added two conversions.

This weekend, the firsts and seconds are at home to Orrell and Liverpool University veterans respectively, both 2-15 p.m. kick-offs.

On Sunday, the Under 7-12s are home to Garstang, the Under 13s at Trafford and the Under 15s at Garstang.
