A Pendle athlete will compete to become the best bodybuilder in Britain after qualifying for the BNBF British Finals.
Sebastian David will stand alongside a selection of some of the finest physiques in the UK at Perth Concert Hall in Scotland on September 25th after successfully stripping his beer belly.
The 29-year-old, who started off at 14st 6lbs and almost 30% body fat, is undergoing a structured training regime and nutritional plan in a bid to sculpt the perfect shape for competition.
Training three times a day, six days a week, the former Burnley College student is hoping to cut down to four per cent body fat by eating a diet of fruit, eggs, oats, beef, white potatoes, rice cakes, fish, chicken, sweet potato and veg.
Having finished in second spot in the British Natural Qualifiers in Belfast, Sebastian, who competes in the lightweight category, said: “I started out because my Dad, David Hadfield, was poorly. During his illness, indulging in food was a coping mechanism. I enjoyed drinking and I enjoyed eating rubbish. That took the pressure off having to look good because I had other pressures to deal with.
“I knew that one day I would have to change so I set a date and I’ve just stuck to it ever since. It took me seven months to get in to a shape where I was happy but I wanted more. I was frustrated that I wasn’t working towards anything. I needed a focus, I wanted to keep setting new goals, so I looked at competing.”
A top two finish in the competition would merit a place at the DFAC Finals in Miami in October where the one-time Park High School pupil would get the chance to conquer the world.
“I’m over the moon with where I am,” he said. “I’ve been working hard for a while now with that competition as my motivation. I just want to do the best I can but I really want this.
“To finish in the top two and go to Miami would be amazing but I’d be delighted to secure a top five finish to gain some recognition.
“I finished second in Belfast, I’m now in the top 20 in Britain, now the goal is to win the British title. I want to become British number one and compete in the world finals in Miami.”
