It would’ve been a proud moment for Burnley RUFC coach Phil Jones when one of the club’s proteges made his senior debut.

Jones coached junior product Harry Smalls as a youngster and the pair joined forces for the first time.

The outcome wasn’t what they’d hoped, however, as they were beaten 42-17 at Fleetwood.

Having trailed 28-0 at the interval, they finally woke up as a Zane Smith hat-trick of tries and conversions at least allowed them to claim the second half.

Meanwhile, the second string put in a good performance in an 18-18 home draw with Preston.

Steve Harrison was responsible for the majority of Burnley’s points while Shaye McCullough added an outrageous drop goal.

Tomorrow the first XV and third XV are at home to Keswick and Bolton respectively. The second XV are at Crosby St Mary’s with all kick offs scheduled for 3 p.m.

On Sunday the U7-12s are away at Bury, the U13/14s are at home to Bury and the U15s play host to Rossendale with all kick offs at 11 a.m. The Colts entertain Ormskirk at 12-30 p.m. while the ladies are at home to Vale of Lune at 2 p.m.
