The 2014/15 rugby season at Burnley ended with the brilliant news that Anya Richmond had been selected for the England Under 15 Talent Development Group for this campaign.
While not an official England squad, as girls don’t play matches at Under 15 level, the Talent Development Group is the selection of the top 30 girls at that age level in England.
Anya, number eight for Burnley’s Under 15s, has been selected to be part of this squad for the forthcoming season.
This will involve her in squad sessions starting at Sale Sharks in October.
This is great credit to Anya and all the hard work she has put in over the whole of her rugby career to date, starting in the minis at Burnley before moving to the Burnley girls’ squad in 2012.
She is one of the core of the squad who represented Lancashire Under 15s with four of her team mates, and also The North of England Under 15s.
What makes this selection even more outstanding is that Anya is an Under 14 player and can still play with the Under 15s next season.
She is the first Burnley girl to be picked for the TDG and her selection just shows how much girls’ rugby has progressed in the last three seasons at Holden Road.
All at Burnley wish Anya the best of luck for her time with the TDG, from which many England age group internationals have been selected.
