There was also a shock result in the doubles knockout when prolific amateurs and Golden Cue high break record holder (131) Andy Dibb and Jamie Linguard were dumped out by the more senior Ighten Mount duo of Ken Topham and Alan Hiscox 2-1.

The match took three hours and was won on the final black when Topham sunk it.

• Bryan and Debbie Collinge have organised a 2 red snooker open at Briercliffe WMC on Saturday, with guarantted prize money for winner and all proceeds will go to local charities. Registration is from 11 a.m. on the day.
