House claim share of cup

Lowerhouse have claimed a share of the LCB Knockout Cup, after the scheduled reserve date of the final against Ormskirk at Blackpool on Sunday again fell victim to the weather.

Following an inspection by officials from Blackpool, the LCB and a Northern League umpire, all three parties agreed on Saturday that the ground would not recover sufficiently for Sunday’s fixture.

The final was previously scheduled for last Sunday, at Emirates Old Trafford, but was unfortunately abandoned after only nine overs of play.

In planning this year’s final, two dates were set aside, allowing for other competitions to take place, and also considering the necessary resource within the LCB to appropriately stage such a prestigious fixture.

It is disappointing for all concerned, particularly after the enjoyment on and off the field for all concerned at Emirates Old Trafford last week.

The LCB would like to thank everyone connected with Lowerhouse and Ormskirk who both agreed to share the 2017 trophy.

Meanwhile, on the penultimate weekend of the Lancashire League, all three of Saturday’s matches were called off without a ball bowled.

Lowerhouse’s game with second place Darwen was abandoned after another heavy downpour just after 2 p.m.

And Burnley’s game against Nelson was also washed out.
