Grand Prix series schedule unveiled

THE dates for the 2011 Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix - the 25th anniversary running of the series - have been unveiled.

The first race is the Hameldon Hill race on Sunday, May 1st - a six-mile, fell race from Turkey Street School, Accrington, from noon. Contact 01254 237485 for details.

Next up is the Pinhaw Fell Race, on Friday, May 6th - a five-mile multi-terrain race from Red Lion Street, 7 p.m., contact 866995.

The following week, the Wholan Nook 8.3k race takes place on Wednesday, May 11th, on track and road from the Waggoners Inn, Manchester Road (7 p.m., contact 424096).

The Burnley Lions 10k race is on Friday, May 27th, a two-lap road race from Colne Cricket Club (7 p.m., contact 702348).

Then is the Kelbrook Fell race on Saturday, June 4th, a 3.4 mile race from St Mary’s Church, Kelbrook, 2 p.m., contact 843867.

The Barley Cabin Fell race takes place on Friday, June 10th - a four-mile fell climb from Barlery Village car park at 7 p.m., (contact 07855983572).

Just two days later is the Burnley Boys’ Club 10k race - three laps of canal path and roads, from Barden Track at 11 a.m., contact 424096.

The following Sunday, June 19th, is the Hendon Brook 13.5-mile race - a very tough, hilly road race from Marsden Park Golf Club, starting at 11 a.m., contact 431959.

The ninth race is the Trawden 7, a road and trail race setting off from Trawden Recreation Ground at 11 a.m., contact 07507648867.

There is a month-long gap before the Cliviger 6 on Sunday, July 31st - a six-mile road race from Mount Lane Sports Ground, 11-30 a.m., contact 459136.

The penultimate event is the Worsthorne Moor Fell race on Sunday, August 7th, from Gorple Road at 11 a.m., contact 438249.

And the final race is the Boulsworth Fell on Sunday, August 14th - a 7.5-mile race on path, bridleway and fell, setting off from Trawden Recreation Ground at 10-30 a.m., contact 07507648867.

Runners who complete all 12 races will receive a momento, with the best of 10 to count.

Entry on the day is £5 for attached runners, and £7 unattached.

The first of four Grand Prix meetings takes place at Burnley Boys’ Club on Monday, followed by April 18th, August 8th and October 3rd, all from 6-30 p.m.

And the celebration evening and presentation will be on Friday, August 19th at Rosegrove WMC from 8 p.m.
