Grand Prix dates

THE 25th Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix series is edging closer.

The first race of 2011 will be the six mile fell race at Hameldon Hill, Accringon, on Sunday, May 1st at noon, starting at Turkey Street. The Earby Pinhaw five mile Fell Race, beginning at Red Lion Street, will take place on the following Friday at 7 p.m.

The competition then comes to Burnley on Wednesday, May 11th at 7 p.m. with the mixed terrain 8.3 km obstacle of Wholan Nook, with all entrants asked to meet at Manchester Road’s Waggoners Inn.

From there competitors will then embark on the Burnley Lions 10km run from Colne Cricket Club on Friday, May 27th at 7 p.m. and will then be bestowed with a week’s rest to help them prepare for the Kelbrook Fell, starting at St Mary’s Church, on Saturday, June 4th at 2 p.m.

The Barley Cabin four-mile fell race, starting out at Barley Village car park at 7 p.m., is on Friday, June 10th and then it’s back to Burnley for the Burnley Boys Club 10 km race with a 11 a.m. start at Barden track on Saturday, June 12th.

The challenging 13-and-a-half mile Hendon Brook race, beginning at Marsden Park golf course at 11 a.m., arrives on Sunday, June 19th and another week will elapse before the Trawden seven mile race, starting out at Trawden Recreation Ground at 11 a.m., on Sunday, June 26th.

The Cliviger six-mile road race will start out from Mount Lane Sports Ground at 11-30 a.m. on Sunday, July 31st following an extended summer break and then the penultimate race of the series will be the seven mile multi terrain Worsthorne Moor Fell beginning at Gorple Road at 11 a.m. on Sunday, August 7th.

The seven-and-a-half mile Boulsworth Fell, where competitors are asked to meet at Trawden Recreation Ground at 10-30 a.m., will round the series off on Sunday, August 14th.

Runners who complete all 12 races will receive a momento.

The next meeting of the Pendle and Burnley Grand Prix will take place at Burnley Boys Club at 6-30 p.m. on April 18th while the presentation evening for the forthcoming 2011 series will take place at Rosegrove Working Men’s Club at 8 p.m. on Friday, August 19th.
