The club is the of Burnley Leisure's attractions to reopen following changes to the government’s lockdown guidelines.

All the charitable trust's venues – including Prairie Sports Village, St Peter’s Leisure Centre, Padiham Leisure Centre, Burnley Mechanics and The Boathouse in Thompson Park – were temporarily closed earlier this year as part of national coronavirus restrictions.

Since then, staff have been on unpaid ‘furlough’ status.

Many staff have been working as volunteers, they have been supporting the Burnley Together initiative making hundreds of deliveries via Burnley’s Foodbank. Burnley Leisure Fitness staff have also continued to support local people with free live online workouts, quizzes, recipes and more providing support for mental health, diet and nutrition.

Towneley golf course is set within the historic and beautiful Towneley Park, 180-hectares of parkland surrounding Towneley Hall and Museum.

Scott Bryce, area manager for Burnley Leisure, said: “We are delighted to be reopening Towneley Golf Course and want to help people enjoy golf safely. Improving people’s health and wellbeing are central aims of Burnley Leisure and golf offers excellent opportunities for both physical and mental wellbeing.

“We know people are really looking forward to playing golf, both beginners and experienced players, and with the new arrangements at Towneley we are sure everyone will really enjoy their visit. We’ve made some important changes to reflect good social distancing and hygiene measures and also guidance from England Golf, the national body governing the game.
