Young lady Clarets suffer derby day defeats on 3G

In a bid to move things on, two teams switched their weekend games to the Prairie’s 3G pitch and, although it was good to be playing football again, neither side got the result that they wanted.

The Under 13s faced Preston North End in the League Cup on Saturday.

Both sides looked rusty in the opening stages, although Burnley forward Grace Turner did have a number of shots which narrowly missed the target.

The Clarets settled the better of the sides and started to control the game, but Preston’s speedy strikers meant that they remained dangerous on the break.

Despite numerous chances for both sides, it remained 0-0 at the break, but Preston took the lead shortly after half-time, followed quickly by their second goal, from a corner.

Burnley responded well, creating numerous chances, which on another day would have gone in, but it was Preston who got the final goal, with a well-placed through-ball beating Burnley’s defence five minutes from time.

Burnley played well in appalling conditions and the scoreline did not reflect the balance of play, but the Clarets paid the price for not converting their chances.

The Under 11s were also in action, in a much anticipated local derby against Blackburn CSC. The Clarets were undefeated against their local rivals last season, and it was clear from the start that Blackburn were intent on getting the bragging rights this time.

In an all-action game, full of full-blooded tackles, it was Blackburn’s pacey attacks on the break which ultimately proved to be Burnley’s undoing and, although the result could have gone either way, it was Blackburn CSC who went home happy this time.
