Ings took his tally to 24 for the season with a brace in the 3-1 win against Millwall at Turf Moor, and could afford to miss a penalty just before half-time.

He and strike partner Sam Vokes now have 39 goals between them - the best from a Burnley duo in almost 30 years.

But, ahead of tonight’s trip to Bolton Wanderers, the 21-year-old - on a run of seven goals in seven games - insists he is getting better all the time: “Obviously I’m on a good run at the moment, and I’m going to work as hard as I can to keep that going, and work as hard as I can as a player to improve my all-round game as well.

“It’s a confidence boost, but as a player you don’t really take it in, you just carry on playing your football.

“I don’t look at records myself, I’m not sure about Sam, I don’t think he does either, we just work hard for each other and get each other as many goals as we can.

“He could have got me five goals on Saturday, he was fantastic, he was strong, he gave them just as hard a time as I did.

“The more we work on the training ground, the stronger we’re going to be as a pair.

“We’ve also got Barnesy (Ashley Barnes) now who’s another great addition.”

But talk of promotion remains off-limits, despite climbing back to second place in the Championship table ahead of QPR’s trip to Derby County last night: “We don’t want to look at the league table, it’s still early doors.

“We’ve just got to go into every game trying to win and do our best.

“We’ve got a thing at the training ground where we get told off if we talk about it (promotion).

“I think the lads don’t want to talk about it,we just want to talk about every game as it comes and that’s what we’re going to do.

“There’s no fine, it’s just banter with the lads but I don’t think anyone’s going to talk about that.”
