Winger Kightly aiming to make the most of home advantage

After silencing the hecklers by ending a club record 655 minute spell without a goal in all competitions, the 28-year-old summer signing is predicting that victory will follow.

Sean Dyche’s side scored twice to end the drought in the stalemate with Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, and now the Clarets have home advantage in five of the next seven league fixtures in their bid to record a first win of the campaign.

West Ham, Everton, Hull City, Aston Villa and Newcastle all travel to East Lancashire in the coming weeks, with Arsenal and Stoke City providing the challenge away from Turf Moor.

Ahead of tomorrow’s clash with Sam Allardyce’s Hammers, Kightly said: “We’re disappointed not to have won a game, but we’ve got two home games now and hopefully we can get a win there.

“We’ve got to keep believing that we can score goals and pick up wins in this division.

“We haven’t got a win yet but if we keep playing like we have, then I’m sure we will.

“We’ve performed pretty well. We just haven’t had the rub of the green. If we can keep building and believing as a team we will get there.”

Kightly’s equaliser against the Foxes was his sixth goal for the club since joining on loan from Stoke City 13 months ago. And after becoming a permanent fixture at the club, the former Potter is hoping to add to his tally to help get Burnley’s season up and running.

“It would be nice if I can get a few more,” he said. “I just want to knuckle down and work hard. It was only my second start of the season, I missed all the pre-season, so I want to build on my fitness.”

Kightly, who made his debut in the East Lancashire derby against Blackburn Rovers last September, added: “It’s a tough division but we know it’ll come. We’ve got to keep going and keep believing - that’s the most important thing when you haven’t won a game and you haven’t been scoring goals. We’ve got to make sure that we don’t lose the belief.

“You have to show ambition. There’s no point getting down about it. We just have to roll our sleeves up and kick on and that’s what we’re doing.”
