Who is Burnley FC’s biggest fan?
From the world of cricket to the world of television, the claret and blue flag has been waved by some of the biggest star names around over the years.
And with the recent news Prince Charles is now officially a Claret, the Express looked at a few other famous faces who are proud to call Burnley Football Club their team.
Celebrity fans may not come much bigger than the heir to the throne but the club is also followed by cricketing royalty – Jimmy Anderson.
The Ashes hero and world class seam bowler was born in Burnley and always keeps an eye on how the Clarets are fairing no matter which part of the world he is in.
Tony Blair’s former spin doctor first watched his beloved Clarets in 1961 and tries to help out the club in any way he can – even making an unforgettable appearance at the Soccer Six tournament held at Turf Moor last year.
Burnley fans have enjoyed plenty of sunshine along with quite a few black clouds over the years – but none more than TV weatherman John Kettley, a self-confessed Burnley fan.
He may be most famous for his appearances on Coronation Street but Sam Aston (aka Chesney) is also a regular fixture at the Turf, as is Burnley-born presenter Tony Livesey, who regularly contributes to the matchday magazine.
Back to the soaps and Emmerdale’s Jarvis Skelton (played by Burnley born Richard Moore) is another well known Claret while the most famous Dingle of them all, Zak Dingle (played by Steve Halliwell) has also been spotted at the Turf.
Margaret Thatcher’s chief press secretary Bernard Ingham is also a fan of all things claret and blue and actress Alice Barry, Lillian Tyler in Channel 4’s “Shameless” who is currently serving up a cheeky treat for Sport Relief, never has anything but kind words for her hometown team.
