On a day where there were reports of a third offer from West Ham for the centre back - believed to be wide of the mark - Tarkowski was not named in the 18 on duty for the Carabao Cup second round tie with Sheffield United at Turf Moor.

That lit the fires of speculation on social media again, but boss Sean Dyche insists he was just taking a precaution ahead of the trip to the King Power Stadium: "We're not thinking it's serious, it was more of a jarring thing, into a pair of new boots where it's just got too sore, settled down last couple of days, touch and go today and we have to make these decisions.

"There's a number of players who arguably have a fair chance of being involved at the weekend who we had to be careful with because we're low on numbers.

"I think he's got more of a chance for Sunday, but we'll wait and see what the next 24 hours bring."
