Wes Fletcher joins Accrington Stanley on loan

Striker Wes Fletcher has joined neighbours Accrington Stanley on loan.

Fletcher will stay with the League Two side until the start of January with Burnley boss Eddie Howe allowing the 20-year-old to join team-mate Kevin Long at Stanley to gain further first-team experience.

Howe said: “He is a player with talent. We feel he is part of the future here, which why we gave him a two-year deal.

“It was always part of the plan for the next stage of his development to get some games at Football League level.

“He was unfortunate last year when he got a couple of injuries which restricted his football, so he needs to go somewhere and play.

“Kevin Long is already there and the locality is ideal for us to keep an close eye on his progress.

“Hopefully he will go there and score some goals and come back that much better prepared to challenge for a place in our first team.”

Fletcher came off the bench during Burnley’s Carling Cup win over Burton Albion last week.

But with Danny Ings arriving from AFC Bournemouth, the former Clarets’ youth team player has been given the green light for a third loan spell away from Turf Moor following earlier temporary moves to Grimsby Town and Stockport County.

Fletcher will be available to Reds’ manager John Coleman for Tuesday night’s home game against Bradford City.
