Having seen Kieran Trippier, Danny Ings and Jason Shackell depart over the summer, Dyche is still without Dean Marney and Ashley Barnes, who suffered cruciate knee ligament injuries in the Premier League season.

That means five of what became, essentially, his first-choice side in the top flight are unavailable to him, and injuries to new signings Matt Lowton and Fredrik Ulvestad have not helped either.

Dyche remains eager to add to the five senior signings he has made so far this summer, before the transfer window closes at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, September 1st., and, ahead of Saturday’s home game with Brentford, he said: “We’re still in the market, we still want that demand, but we are a bit low in numbers at the minute.

“Matty Lowton has been injured, unfortunately, Tendayi (Darikwa) is learning and developing, so there are a lot of pieces to still fall into place in the jigsaw.

“While that is happening, we still have to get points on the board, of course.

“When you lose Shacks, Tripps, Danny Ings, Dean Marney and Barnesy in the last five or six months, then it’s difficult to expect that isn’t going to have an effect.

“It’s limiting that effect, rebuilding it and rethinking it, which we’ve been working hard to do.

“The market hasn’t been favourable, that’s been very difficult even though we have money, it’s difficult to get what we think can take us back forwards again very quickly, so it’s still in that transition, that flux of how we get the team to operate, how they’re learning about each other.”

Dyche has tried numerous combinations of strikers so far to get the right blend, without much success, and he added: “I still say Vokesy’s come back to sharpness, we wanted to give it a freshness on Tuesday, Jelle is still adapting to the group, there’s no two ways about it, he’s finding how he plays in a new group, and Rouwen has just come in, so we just wanted to give him a taste of it, and I thought he showed some nice touches around the box.

“We know he has a very powerful left foot and a finish.”
