Vince Overson leaves Turf Moor

CENTRE of Excellence head Vince Overson is believed to have been placed on “gardening leave” as Burnley continue to make adjustments ahead of the implementation of the Premier League’s new categorisation of youth development operations at professional clubs.

Martin Dobson left Turf Moor on Monday after three years as Director of Youth Development.

And the youth department at Turf Moor is to undergo a management restructure.

The club would only say of Overson on Wednesday: “We are in consultation with a number of Centre of Excellence staff with regard to changes within the youth development structure and cannot comment further until this consultation period reaches a conclusion.”

Eddie Howe hopes the club can adjust to the changes and bring more youngsters through into the first team: “It’s difficult for me because it’s such a big job. In terms of management you don’t get the time to spread yourself too thin.

“But I keep a close eye on it, I do believe we’ve got good staff in place. I think when things calm down in terms of the changes we’re making regarding the first team and behind the scenes, I’ll get the chance to devote a little bit more time to it but at the moment I haven’t been able to dig too deep.

“But I do believe we’re trying to do the right things. We’ll have to adjust to the changes that have been made, because it is an absolutely vital part of the club and something we need to get right because we need to produce our own players.

“We have a couple over from Ireland who are doing really well, and you always want to see the lad from Burnley come right the way through, but it’s sometimes difficult to get.”
