True cost of a day out at Turf Moor

The annual BBC Sport’s Price of Football survey revealed that only Manchester City beat Burnley in season-ticket prices for top flight football – Burnley’s cheapest season ticket is £329 while City’s is £299.

Arsenal top the poll with their cheapest season ticket a massive £1,014, with the average price £509 for all 20 teams.

The BBC survey looks at ticket prices, replica shirt costs and prices for pies, programmes and even a cup of tea for the Premier League, Football League and also non-league and as well comparing them to ticket prices abroad.

They found that the average price of the cheapest tickets across English football has risen at almost twice the rate of the cost of living since 2011 – but have also found the despite the price increases, attendances are still on the up.

To walk on to Turf Moor, the cheapest match-day price is £35 which does put the Clarets up among the big boys with only Chelsea, Liverpool Manchester United and Manchester City above them.

However, while Arsenal’s most expensive walk-on price is £97, Burnley’s is just £42, which is only higher than Crystal Palace, West Brom and Sunderland.

The cheapest match-day experience at Turf Moor works out at £42.30 - putting them around a mid-table slot.

The BBC survey also calculated, based on last year’s season ticket cost and home goals scored, that the goals at Turf Moor scored by Danny Ings, Sam Vokes and co cost around £8.89 per goal for the average fan.

And, as part of the whole match-day experience, buying a pie and a cup of tea at Turf Moor is quite reasonable – it’s £2.50 for a pie and £1.80 for a cuppa which are among the lowest prices in the Premier League.

A club spokesman said “We welcome the BBC survey, which we feel shows that Burnley Football Club’s pricing is highly competitive.

“We fully realise that the paying public have a choice and we have tried to ensure that we make Premier League football as affordable to as many folk as possible.

“This is borne out with the fact we have the second cheapest season ticket available in the league and our most expensive match day ticket is still one of the cheapest among our peers.

“In addition, the cost of the match day experience at Turf Moor stands up well and we are always looking to add more value to the package.”
