Trippier sees room for improvement

After climbing to the top of the Championship, defender Kieran Trippier believes the Clarets will continue to improve.

Due to Wigan’s involvement in the Europa League, leaders QPR were out of action midweek meaning a 2-0 win over Doncaster Rovers was enough for the Clarets to usurp Harry Redknapp’s side on goal difference.

Trippier is adamant that the character of the squad will transform the Clarets in to an even more competitive proposition.

“Of course we can keep improving,” he said. “We’ve got so much quality in that dressing room, even off the bench. The subs coming on, I know it’s hard but they’ve contributed so much, like Junior (Stanislas) against Blackburn.

“They’re all willing to play their part and even the people that don’t get on the bench, if they get the opportunity I think they’ll take it. We’ve got the players to do it and the staff to do it and as long as we keep doing well on the training field we’ll take it on to the pitch and I think we’ll do very well this season.”

Trippier added: “It’s no fluke, we’ve all worked hard together and dug in together. We’re like a big family as a team and I think we’re all willing to dig deep for each other on the pitch and off the pitch. We don’t worry about anybody else, we just concentrate on our game.

“Teams will have to work hard against us because the fitness levels of all the boys are ridiculous, we’re all willing to work together.”

• Vintage Clarets take on Commercial Old Boys at the XLCR Stadium in Colne on Sunday at 3pm.

Tickets are £5 and £2 and proceeds from the game will go youth and ground development and club funds.
