Trippier hopes to spoil family’s night at Theatre

The Clarets right back comes from a family of Manchester United supporters, but, as Burnley travel to take on the Red Devils, Trippier hopes they will cheer for the opposition on the night.

United have suffered only one defeat in 17 games, having rescued a point at West Ham late on on Sunday, while Burnley have one win in eight, but the former Manchester City youngster hopes to spring a surprise at the Theatre of Dreams: “My family are United fans and hopefully they’re supporting me!

“I’ll have words with them, but hopefully me and the lads can go there and cuase an upset.

“It’s the first time I’ve played there, and I’m looking forward to it - when we were promoted, these are the games you look forward to, playing against these teams in these stadiums.

“They’re a good team, but we’ll go there and stick to our game plan and hopefully cause an upset.”

The Clarets go into the game having let two-goal leads slip in three of their last four games, and Trippier was was disappointed not to go on and take all three points at home to West Brom on Sunday, with the Baggies coming back to claim a 2-2 draw: “It’s frustrating because of how well we played in the first half, and the majority of the second.

“For them to score a set piece right before half-time hurts - it’s not what you want to do.

“We dominated it and it’s frustrating not to take the three points.

“I can’t remember them having any chances, and we created a lot.”

Two-goal leads have now evaporated against Spurs, Crystal Palace and Albion, but Trippier admitted: “You don’t think about that in another game, we were 2-0 up and dominating, but we gave them a lifeline and they had a good spell second half, but after that we found our feet and tried to win it.

“It wasn’t meant to be so we take the point and move on.

“To be 2-0 up at home and controlling the game again, it’s frustrating.”

Both West Brom goals came from corners, and the Clarets have conceded a league-high 14 goals from headers so far this season.

Trippier said: “We work on set pieves all the time, it’s just frustrating.

“It costs you in this league because of the quality of opposition.

“We feel sick, but we move on.

“We just need to keep practising and practising in training as we have done.

“We’ve condeded a few, and we need to keep working on it.”
