Trippier (hamstring) has missed the last three games, and Ings (ankle) the last four, but, with seven games remaining, Dyche expects to have the pair back soon: “The news is really good on Tripps, he’s virtually on the edge of things now, although Watford might come too soon for him - we’ll make a late decision on him.

“But he’s had a really good six, seven days on the grass building up to training.

“Danny started joining in again on grass on Wednesday, and felt good.

“He’s started moving again and got himself going, but both would have to join in full training - we can’t risk them.”

Sam Vokes was also ruled out for the season on Monday evening, after rupturing his anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.

Dyche admits it was a bitter blow, but is focusing on solutions, not dwelling on problems: “It wasn’t a major shock to us, obviously you don’t want to hedge your bets either way just after the game, but the news from the physios was that it was probably more serious.

“But we’ve got to think positive.

“When specialists deal with ACLs, it’s a lot different now. Ruud van Nistelrooy did his in 2000 and moved to Manchester United a year later for £19m and I think he did alright!

“There’s no worry surrounding the operaration, it’s just the time issue.

“Sam’s been first class this season and it’s a knock for him.

“But it’s an opportunity for someone else. Sam is aware of the ups and downs in football, and the group knows what it has achieved and is looking to achieve.”

Dyche will look within the group to replace him, rather than promote anyone from the Development Squad: “We can’t disguise the fact we only have one fit main striker.

“We’ll deal with that the best we can and work around that situation.

“But we’ll use someone from within the senior group, although the youngsters are developing well.”
