Trippier aiming to make a point

MANCHESTER City boss Roberto Mancini feels his multi-million pound squad isn’t big enough.

But one of Burnley’s two loanees from City, Kieran Trippier is happy furthering his experience at Turf Moor.

Mancini said after the 2-2 draw at Fulham on Sunday: “We are lacking at this moment because we lost two midfielders. I don’t have players. I can only change the full backs.”

England Under 21 international right back Trippier is an ever-present for the Clarets so far this season, ahead of the Carling Cup third round tie with MK Dons on Tuesday night.

And, asked about Mancini’s comments, he said: “It makes me feel a bit annoyed, but I’m happy at Burnley, getting games under my belt.

“A few scouts have been to see my performances and hopefully they’ll go back to the manager and he sees how well I’m doing.

“They wanted me to go out on loan, and I wanted to try and get 40 games again, as I did for Barnsley last year.

“Hopefully I can go back there next season and get my opportunity.

“It was frustrating not to get my chance this summer, but as soon as Burnley came in for me, it was ideal.”

Looking ahead to the cup tie, Trippier feels Burnley have a point to make after successive league defeats: “Everybody’s disappointed, but we’ve got to bounce back against MK and put in a good performance.

“The spirit’s good - it’s always good, we have a good bond, we’ve just got to bounce back.

“Everybody fancies our chances at home, we’ve just got to show the performances we’re capable of .

“We need to put on a show.

“Hopefully we can do that and win in 90 minutes this time. Extra time kills you, so we have to take our chances.”
