Tom Heaton named in England squad

Clarets keeper Tom Heaton has been named in the senior England squad to face the Republic of Ireland and Slovenia.

And he is joined by former Burnley striker Charlie Austin.

Roy Hodgson has named a 24-man pool for the two games next month – a friendly against Republic of Ireland in Dublin on June 7th and a Euro 2016 Qualifier against Slovenia in Ljubljana on June 14th.

Heaton, 29, has previous international experience for England having featured throughout the youth ranks from Under 16s to Under 21s.

He has nine clean sheets in the Premier League this season.

And Austin, 25, has been called up after scoring 17 goals for the Hoops this season.

Burnley’s last full England international was Martin Dobson, who picked up his fourth cap back in June 1974 against Yugoslavia.

Hodgson said: “Tom Heaton, Jamie Vardy & Charlie Austin have had very good seasons for their club’s quite often in very difficult situations.”
