Sven-Goran Eriksson is thrilled at Leicester display

SVEN-Goran Eriksson was thrilled with his side’s display against Burnley – but frustrated that was an exception of late rather than the rule.

Inconsistency has been a problem for the Foxes, as with much of the Championship, but he feels Saturday set the standards for City.

The former England chief said after the 4-0 mauling, courtesy of goals from Diomansy Kamara, two from Paul Gallagher and a superb effort from Patrick Van Aanholt: “I am happy, but I am also angry.

“This team, we should play like we did more often. We have made silly mistakes sometimes. Too confident sometimes.

“We were focused, concentrated. No mistakes. Top, top class.

“With the players we have and the team we have we should do it more often. If we play like that it’s not easy to beat us.

“We prefer to play against a playing team, not against a team who knocks it long all the time.

“They tried to play football and normally you get better performances when you have two teams doing that.”

Despite a Yakubu hat-trick against his former club, Leicester were held to a 3-3 draw by Middlesbrough last week, and Eriksson added: “We actually played quite well against Middlesbrough, but today we were focused.

“There was a real attitude from us, a real concentration. I was pleased that we were positive and that we started the game well. It was an open beginning and Burnley tried to play good football, so perhaps their approach favoured us.

“But the way we continued, there was only going to be one result.”

City face Crystal Palace at the Walkers Stadium tonight as they look to put pressure on the top six, and Eriksson insisted: “Now we look to Tuesday and another big game, but they are all big games now.

“We must handle that pressure and we must focus as we did today.

“While the play-offs are mathematically possible we will keep fighting.”
