Supercomputer predicts incredibly tight finish between Everton, Leeds United and Burnley in fight for Premier League survival

With Norwich City’s fate sealed, and Watford almost certain to follow in the coming days, focus now turns to who’ll be the third and final club to suffer relegation from the Premier League.

Everton currently occupy 17th spot in the top flight as the clock continues to run down, though the Toffees have a game in hand on both Leeds United and Burnley, with two points to make up on the pair.

Frank Lampard’s side rolled their sleeves up and got themselves back into the fight for survival when Richarlison’s finish made the difference against Chelsea at Goodison Park.

That result, which was preserved by a fine display from goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, was pivotal for the blue half of Merseyside given that the Clarets had previously come from behind to beat Watford at Vicarage Road.

Midfielders Jack Cork and Josh Brownhill completed the late turnaround against the Hornets to move them level on points with the Whites, who were well-beaten at home to defending champions Manchester City later in the day.

Burnley’s third win on the bounce under interim boss Mike Jackson has given the club’s hopes of survival a major boost ahead of Saturday’s game against Aston Villa at Turf Moor on Saturday.

Burnley, who have now collected seven points from three games under Under 23s manager Michael Jackson, who is in interim charge, travel to Vicarage Road to take on struggling Watford next.

Everton, meanwhile, take on Leicester City at the King Power Stadium, while Leeds are up against Arsenal at the Emirates and the Blues — the World and European champions — at Elland Road in their next couple of fixtures.

Using their predictive model, which incorporates a revised version of ESPN’s Soccer Power Index (SPI), and a plethora of metrics, this is how data analysts at FiveThirtyEight believe the remainder of the Premier League season will play out.
