The Level 3 BTEC Advanced Diploma in Sport is a two-year full-time programme which enables students to attain a high quality qualification via vocational learning, while also gaining valuable practical experiences relating to the sport and leisure industry.

Students complete a range of modules, which cover various subjects including coaching, physiology, sociology, nutrition and performance analysis.

In addition, students will have the opportunity to gain a Level 1 FA Certificate in Coaching as well as the FA Emergency First Aid and FA Safeguarding Children in Football Award.

In addition there will also be the opportunity to enroll on the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award and the National Citizen Service Award.

Students require dedication and commitment to complete this course and need at least five GCSE’s between A-C, including English and Mathematics to gain entry onto the course, which is of the same standard as A-Levels.

The one-year, full time Sports Leaders Apprenticeship is also aimed at 16-18 year olds and will give learners the opportunity to be employed within a local school or community sports organisation, whilst studying for their academic qualification.

The teaching for both of these courses will be delivered at Turf Moor by staff with many years of experience, both within professional football and education.

There will be opportunities for the students studying these programmes to take part in community-based activities and match-day experiences, as well as representing Burnley Football Club in matches against other local colleges and professional clubs.

All of the facilities at Turf Moor will be available to the students who will be learning about the sports and leisure industry whilst studying within a professional football club environment.

Working in partnership with the Mitre Group and Loughborough College the community department believes that BFC can provide high quality education alongside practical involvement, which will include representing Burnley Football Club.

We also believe that involvement in these programmes will lead to future employment or further education opportunities for all of those who enrol.

This view is supported by Pat McKiernan, Burnley Football Clubs’ Head of Education & Welfare, who said: “Involvement in football is not limited to playing, there are a variety of careers available within the industry, which not only relate to the professional game but also to the commercial and community departments.

“However, in order to pursue these careers it is vital to gain the relevant knowledge, experience and qualification.

“I don’t believe that there is a better environment to gain these skills than within a professional sporting environment, which also includes educational facilities and even a University!”
