And he believes the positive mentality that served them so well on the way to promtion last season will yet bear fruit.

Burnley are the only side without a win in the Premier League after eight games, and ahead of Sunday’s visit of Everton to Turf Moor, Dyche said: “I think most people the Premier League has grown considerably in a four or five year window - we’re well aware. There has been a strong growth in the finances, and it looks like it will go higher again.

“Clubs have built very powerful teams, and the world has become smaller and smaller with the recruitment side of things.

“But we don’t deal in blind faith, we deal in positives and reality.

“It’s a different challenge, it’s unfamiliar territory to most of the players and myself, but there is a growth in performances.”

And he added: “We built this mentality of being relentless, going hard every game, and although that can’t guarantee an outcome, it gives you a better chance of winning games.

“It’s easy to talk about the mentality when you are winning games, but it’s a different challenge when you are not.

“I’ve been pleased with that aspect though, and if we can add the quality we’ve got, it gives you a chance. We’re aware there is a clinical edge at this level. Teams will hurt you if you don’t hurt them first. We are creating chances, and if the quality of chance is good, the likelihood is more goals will come.”

Dyche also hailed the fans for their positivity during a difficult start to the campaign: “They have been brilliant. We want the players to be able to play in an atmosphere where they feel secure, and the supporters have been positive. They realise the group will give everything for them, and we’ll see where that takes us.

“But it’s important we remain resolute.”
