Spanish eyes on Danny?

Transfer deadline day speculation is centred on Clarets striker Danny Ings’ potential move to Real Sociedad.

BBC football correspondent Ian Dennis suggested that the 22-year-old had signed pre-contract terms with the La Liga outfit, coached by former Manchester United boss David Moyes.

If true, the move would be a huge financial blow for the Clarets with the club likely to lose their prize asset for a significantly reduced fee due to FIFA compensation rules.

The seven-goal striker could potentially pull in less than £300,000 should he move to Europe - a price calculated on the number of seasons Ings has been present at Turf Moor - which would be millions of pounds below a purported fee expected at a tribunal should the England Under 21 international see out his contract.

Meanwhile, officials at Burnley Football Club were confident of adding to the squad before the transfer window slams shut at 11 p.m. A statement from the club read: “We are working on adding to the squad and hopeful of having something concluded today”.

While Sean Dyche has spent the majority of January batting away questions relating to Ings, the Clarets boss has maintained that the club have been constantly active in the market regarding additions to the squad.

Following the 2-0 loss to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light, Dyche said: “There are things happening in the transfer market and we have money.

“One deal is building, but we will have to see what happens.

“We’ve been active all the time, it’s like a broken record, there’s a misconception you just ring a manager and ask ‘can I have your player?’ and they go ‘of course you can!’

“It just doesn’t happen like that, particularly if you haven’t got a massive cheque book. We’ve got some money, but you’ve all seen the money needed in the Premier League, huge numbers, numbers our club isn’t used to, so we have to shop accordingly.”

A £3m offer is believed to have been made for West Bromwich Albion midfielder Graham Dorrans as the hours tick down.

Scottish international Dorrans, who netted against the Clarets earlier in the season, has been at the Hawthorns for six-and-a-half years since signing from Livingston for £100,000.

It was understood that new boss Tony Pulis had been looking to offload the 27-year-old, who has appeared 22 times for the Baggies this term, though a failure to land target Darren Fletcher had temporarily scuppered such a transfer.

Another name that sprung in to the headlines late on was that of Norwich City midfielder Bradley Johnson, though sources in East Anglia believed a move for the 27-year-old was very unlikely.

Johnson, who moved to Carrow Road in July 2011 after Paul Lambert snapped him up on a free transfer from Leeds United, has played 26 times for the Canaries and has been involved in all four fixtures since Alex Neil took charge last month. He has another 16 months to serve on his current contract with the club.

With Belgium international Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe having played a handful of games since signing from FC Bruges in the summer due to a knee injury and Gary O’Neil suffering from a broken toe it seems Neil would be reluctant to allow his star midfielder to leave, even with Jonny Howson returning from suspension.

Meanwhile, there appears to be legs in the Stuart Armstrong link ahead of the newspaper’s deadline. The Clarets had a bid, which was less than Celtic’s offer of £1.5m, knocked back initially though it was suggested that Dyche would pursue his interest in the highly-touted 22-year-old.

Armstrong, who was also attracting interest from Championship side Reading, helped Dundee United reach the final of the Scottish League Cup alongside Celtic after brushing aside Aberdeen. The Scotland Under 21 international struck the bar in the 2-1 triumph at Hampden Park.
