Skipper Heaton claims the Clarets are still readjusting

After taking just two points from their three opening fixtures, the England international goalkeeper feels his team-mates will start to build up a head of steam for their campaign.

“It’s certainly a factor but we’re still building in to the season,” said Heaton, who signed a new contract at the club in the summer.

“We want to be winning games though. We’re frustrated not to have won yet but we’ll move forward.

“There is a bit of readjusting to do but I wouldn’t say it was tough.

“Everyone looks at their own performances and sticks to what they need to do on an individual basis and for the team.

““Each game brings different challenges and each team you play against brings a different challenge.

“You just have to control what you can do and how you go about it and that’s what we’ll be focussing on.

“The important thing is that we move forward to get that win. That’s the next thing on the list.”

A midweek defeat to Ipswich Town at Portman Road meant the Clarets have not led in any of their four fixtures so far this season.

Leeds United, Port Vale in the Capital One Cup, Birmingham City and now the Tractor Boys have all taken the advantage in those respective fixtures.

Heaton feels the challenge is to now recover from their winless start in readiness for the arrival of Brentford at Turf Moor this weekend.

“There are fine margins and we came out the wrong side of them, which is very frustrating,” said Heaton, who kept 10 clean sheets in the top flight last term.

“We came up short against Ipswich. I think we showed some good stuff in the first half and had a couple of good chances, and we’ve restricted them to not a lot throughout the whole game really.

“But obviously they’ve scored the two goals and that’s not good enough.”

He added: “I think everyone needs to be looking at themselves and make sure we’re ready to go on Saturday.

“We need to get it right. We need to make sure we’re keeping the door shut and at the minute we’re not doing so.”

Sean Dyche’s side were tipped as one of the favourites to gain promotion back to the Premier League.

But Heaton feels that the competitiveness of the division will leave it wide open.

“It’s got potential to be an open division. Potentially there’s a lot of teams that could do well this year and we hope that we’re one of them.

“We’re striving for that. Each game is tough in the Championship. There are no easy games home or away.”
