Season Review: October - Eddie Howe is Cherry-picked!

Burnley were beaten 4-3 at Crystal Palace in Eddie Howe's final game in charge of the Clarets

Howe’s final two games were high-scoring affairs.

First, Burnley led three times at home to Sheffield Wednesday, but were also pegged back three times, as Charlie Austin claimed the matchball, but couldn’t celebrate with three points.

Then the Clarets led 2-0 at Crystal Palace, only for a Wilfried Zaha-inspired Eagles to roar back to win 4-3 - with Austin again on target, with his 15th of the season a mere consolation.

After Howe’s departure, youth team boss Terry Pashley took the reins for three games, with his first match in charge against his hometown club Blackpool at Turf Moor.

That man Austin scored the only goal to beat the Seasiders in front of the Sky cameras.

There followed a thriller at Bristol City, as Austin matched Ray Pointer’s club record of scoring in eight successive games with an early opener.

Steven Davies replied with a glorious free kick, but two goals in a minute from Austin and Martin Paterson looked to have won the points.

The Robins ralled to level at the death through Sam Baldock and Paul Anderson, but there was still time for Chris McCann to head a dramatic last-gasp winner.

Leaders Cardiff rounded off the month as they thumped the Clarets 4-0 in front of manager in waiting Sean Dyche at the Cardiff City Stadium.
