Latching on to full-back Danny Lafferty’s pass, the 23-year-old unleashed a ferocious strike from 25 yards that flashed across goalkeeper David Button before finding the top corner.

It was a goal that would be recognised as the club’s ‘Goal of the Season’ at the awards ceremony at Turf Moor in May.

Austin was on the scoresheet again, scoring within 10 minutes of the clash with Barnsley on home soil. However, the game culminated in another disappointing midweek result as it finished 1-1.

The Tigers were the next opposition to inflict misery on Sean Dyche’s side as a dismal display saw substitutes Robert Koren and Jay Simpson combine to set up Stephen Quinn for Hull City’s second half winner.

It certainly wasn’t the result or performance Clarets fans wanted to see with the derby with Rovers on the horizon but, alas, there would be a reaction.

Captain Jason Shackell’s first goal for the club had seemingly given the Clarets their first win over their arch rivals in 34 years but, after Ben Mee was dismissed for two bookable offences at Ewood Park, David Dunn struck in controversial fashion deep in to time added on to snatch a point.

Austin then scored his final goals of the campaign, numbers 27 and 28, as the Clarets earned a battling 3-3 draw against eventual play-off finalists Watford at Vicarage Road. Sam Vokes grabbed a late leveller for the Clarets.
