Sean Dyche wants to cement place in history

The Clarets have already attained the best tally in their history in winning promotion to the Premier League, and Saturday’s 1-0 win over Ipswich Town took them to 92 from 45 games.

He is determined for his players to go hard again at the Madejski Stadium against Reading, and Dyche said: “I told the group we’re part of history and we want to rubber stamp it and chisel it in stone. We want enough points on that board where people for 100 years will be saying ‘What about that team!’ and people can’t catch it.

“It was about really laying a marker down after making history, and I though today they really went about their business absolutely spot on.

“That’s 21 clean sheets now as well. Phenomenal.”

He was delighted with the effort and application against Mick McCarthy’s play-off chasing side, who had hoped it would be a case of ‘after The Lord Mayor’s Show’.

Dyche said: “I spoke before the game, I felt it was very important to go about our business in the correct manner. I never doubted it for a second if I’m honest. I believe in the way the players work on a daily basis, I’ve mentioned it 100 times.

“My personal belief is if you do it right all of the time you don’t need to flick that switch and turn it on. I thought they were ready to go today, it was quite evident, the physicality was outstanding again.

“One big question mark for our group was could they keep playing the way they play. Yes was the answer.

“I thought there was some really quality again, some of the passing and movement was exceptional. It’s fair to say we could have got another couple, certainly one.”
