And he feels the pressure is firmly on the opposition, given his belief his players will pick up that first three points sooner rather than later.

Burnley are the only side on the country without a win, and became the 10th side in Premier League history to fail to win their first 10 games last week.

But ahead of Saturday’s visit of Hull City to Turf Moor, he said of such statistics: “It’s just junk, you want to focus on what we are doing, not what we’re not.

“You don’t spend money and you get hammered from certain quarters, and if you do, they say it’s ridiculous and you’re going to ruin the club.

“We please ourselves and then others.

“We went into the season open minded, but there has to be a reality.

“Ten games in, we did a review, what have we learned, what do we need to do? What are you thinking? I have my own ideas etc.

“The journey gets chunked down. We’ve played Chelsea, Arsenal, Man U, that’s not our market.

“But weirdly you can be at your strongest when you are at your weakest, so there is strength in our moment now.

“We have freedom, and at some point, total freedom comes when you are losing games, because people go out and say ‘you know what, let’s go out and play’.

“The other team are thinking ‘they’re due a win’, and that’s how I look at it.

“But if we need one, we need to win two, and three. When it comes, and it will, we get on with things, it’s not just ‘hurrah!’”

Dyche mentions money and markets, and he feels the club’s frugality in the summer window is in the long term interest:”I find it strange that people feel you have to throw it under the bus and ruin it?

“There has to be balance, you are a custodian. Some managers say spend it, but I was brought up differently, I care about what I’m doing deeply, for any club I work for.

“I would have spent the money, but the club aligned me with an amount, which is a lot in Burnley’s world - we did it with a bottom six budget last year, and if you double that, it’s a lot, but not in the grand scheme.

“We’re probably about seventh or eighth budget in the Championship still.

“That means the club will be safeguarded. It needs to be here for many moons to come.

“If the board said ‘go for it’, with every penny, I would, but it has to be aligned or it would only cause trouble.

“We’ve been fully aligned since I came here, and if that gets stretched, disparity of money within the group etc, you’ve seen clubs get put at real risk.”

Hull finished Championship runners-up the season before Burnley matched that feat, but have had the luxury of financial backing from Assem Allam along with their Premier League cash and spent accordingly: “Hull spent at Christmas, they started it then. Steve (Bruce) felt that was appropriate, and they’ve spent again in the summer, probably more than I thought they would, but he felt it was necessary

“They are in a more advanced stage than us, with a backer, but even so there are no guarantees, look at Cardiff last season.”
