Dyche fended off competition from Millwall’s Steve Lomas, Leicester City’s Nigel Pearson and Watford’s Gianfranco Zola to claim September’s accolade.

It proved to be third time lucky for Dyche who lost out to Blackpool boss Paul Ince last month while in his tenure at Watford he was beaten to the award by then Reading manager Brian McDermott in March last year.

Skipper Jason Shackell was also nominated for the SkyBet Championship Player of the Month award in a spell which has seen the Clarets accrue 10 points from four fixtures, scoring nine goals and conceding just two.

“I’m not one to over dramatise things but I feel it’s a good reflection of what the club, players and staff have achieved so I accept it gladly on behalf of all of them plus the board and the fans,” said Dyche.

“It’s nice to be recognised. I’ve come to understand that it is a tough job being a football manager. The reality is that it’s a group of players that inevitably perform so all credit to them. Of course I’ll value it as an individual but I’ll take it on behalf of the players and staff.

“This is the third time I’ve been nominated. I don’t over think it, it’s just a nice by-product of doing well. I don’t believe in records, it’s a situation where you address each game that comes. We’ll be ready on Saturday and it’ll be a good challenge against one of the clubs who are considered one of the market leaders of the division.”
