Rovers boss Lambert angry with decisions

Bitter Blackburn Rovers boss Paul Lambert felt referee Mike Jones denied his side two penalties in their 1-0 defeat at Turf Moor.

Lambert could not argue with the spot kick awarded to the Clarets in the 16th minute, after Shane Duffy brought down George Boyd – with Andre Gray scoring what proved to be the winning goal.

However, he was far from amused after Hope Akpan went to ground after a nudge from Stephen Ward just before the break, only for Jones to wave play on.

And in the last action of the game, Jordo Gomez also went down under a challenge from Fredrik Ulvestad, with Jones blowing the full time whistle instead of pointing to the spot.

Lambert said: “I’ve watched them back and been to see the referee to ask him what he saw, because Hope Akpan, for the first one, had the ball safe side and the Burnley lad was behind him, and rightly or wrongly, there’s a slight touch.

“And it doesn’t really matter if it’s slight or a whisker – it’s a penalty because the ball was safe side. He wouldn’t have gone down.

“And the second one was a penalty too. Mike is a brilliant referee, I’ve got no problems with that, but the big moments and the big calls, you’ve got to get them right, and I thought he missed two huge calls.”
