Burnley midfielder Chris McCann is set to leave Turf Moor this summer after the club handed the Irish midfielder a free transfer.

However, the Clarets have offered new terms to striker Martin Paterson, while fellow Northern Ireland international Michael Duff earns a 12-month extension to his Turf Moor career.

Development squad defender Jack Errington, who last year underwent heart surgery and returned to full health in time to feature in a friendly before the end of the season, has had his present deal extended.

And an offer for a first professional contract has been tabled to striker Jason Gilchrist, who scored four hat-tricks in a prolific season for the youth team.

The moves, detailed in the annual retained list, outline manager Sean Dyche’s plans as he looks to re-shape his squad for the 2013/14 season.

Burnley have not offered new contracts to McCann, along with goalkeepers Brian Jensen and Jon Stewart and strikers Alex MacDonald and Wes Fletcher.

Other youngsters released by the club include Australian defender Aryn Williams, winger Adam Evans and strikers Joe Jackson and Shay McCartan.

McCann’s departure signals the end of the Turf Moor career for the former skipper, who joined the Clarets from Irish boys’ club Home Park aged 16 and was fast-tracked into the first team squad in 2005.

The 25-year-old went on to make 269 appearances for the club, scoring 31 goals.

As previously announced, Danish stopper Jensen also leaves Turf Moor this summer having made over 300 appearances, while out-of-contract first choice goalkeeper Lee Grant is set to sign for Championship rivals Derby County in July.

Stewart, who joined the Clarets as a goalkeeping understudy in 2011, failed to make the first team and finished last season on loan with Blue Square Premier side Alfreton Town.

Former youth team striker MacDonald moves on having made just 17 appearances for Burnley and ending last season on loan at Burton Albion, following earlier loan spells with Plymouth Argyle, Inverness Caledonian Thistle and Falkirk.

Fellow striker Fletcher, who also came through the youth ranks, made just two first team appearances as a substitute for the Clarets, and has enjoyed loan spells with Grimsby, Stockport, Accrington, Crewe Alexandra and Yeovil.

McCartan made one brief Burnley appearance as a substitute at Doncaster Rovers in the 2011/12 season, and fellow striker Jackson made the bench in the same campaign as an unused substitute at Norwich.

All remaining senior professionals, second and first year scholars remain under contract, with Dyche looking to add to his squad over the summer in the build-up to next season.

Ex-Bristol City goalkeeper Tom Heaton has already committed to the Clarets and will sign a two-year deal with a further 12-month option on July 1.

And the club is currently in discussions with several more players with a view to further permanent summer signings.
