Record signing Gray will scare defenders - Arfield

The club’s record signing netted twice in the 2-0 victory over lowly Bolton Wanderers at Turf Moor to take his tally to six for the season, including the two he scored for Brentford at the start of the season.

The 24-year-old, signed for £6m from Griffin Park, opened the scoring in the 56th minute when in the right place at the right time to fire home the rebound after Trotters goalkeeper Ben Amos had denied Arfield with a superb reflex save.

Gray then doubled the advantage with a composed finished once Arfield sprung the counter attack to claim a second assist of the afternoon.

“He’s been brilliant,” said the Scot. “Obviously his pace and his power scares defenders massively. I don’t think any defender wants to play against him. He’s a strong lad and he can finish as well.

“There are similarities between him and Ingsy but there are differences as well. Ingsy’s technical ability was brilliant,

“Andre has pace and power that scares defenders and backs them off and allows us in the midfield to get up the pitch and when the centre backs and full backs are scared of the channel ball he’s such a threat for us to have in the team.”

Arfield added: “The longer we can keep him in the team and scoring goals the better for us.

“There was one in the first half when it was just him and a defender and just kind of rag-dolled him and got a shot away and he could have put it in the bottom corner there.

“He’s an absolute pleasure to play with.”

Meanwhile, the 26-year-old is eager to get his name back on the scoresheet having gone nine months without a goal. Arfield scored in the 2-1 win over QPR in the Premier League when shaping a beautiful effort beyond Rob Green.

“I’m still waiting for that first goal,” he said. “I’m sure it will come. You want to score goals and help the team but the most important thing is to help the team in other ways as well.”

The Clarets visit the City Ground this evening to take on Forest after taking 19 points from a possible 24.

On the flip side, Dougie Freedman’s side haven’t won in four including a 2-0 loss against Bristol City at Ashton Gate on Friday.

“I think Bristol City probably deserved it overall, but it’s a completely different game when you go down to Forest, you know how hard it’s going to be,” said Arfield.

“They’ve had a few injuries but there might be a few boys coming back and it might be a changed team so we’ll take nothing for granted.

“We’ll go there and try to go for the win. It’s a massive game for us on Tuesday and we look forward to that one, and then once we wake up on Wednesday it’s all about Blackburn.”
