Record signing Gray hails contribution of unsung hero Jones

And the feeling is mutual!Gray has netted eight goals in 11 appearances for the Clarets since his record £6m switch from Brentford, and is top-scorer in the Championship.Jones – who tops Burnley’s assists with three so far this season – has had a hand in a number of those goals, playing a part in both strikes against Fulham recently, as well as providing the pass for Gray when he hit the bar while on a hat-trick against the Cottagers.The former Wolves midfielder has been an integral part of Sean Dyche’s side since completing a free transfer from Wigan in the summer of 2013, making 103 appearances.But the arrival of Joey Barton has enabled the 31-year-old to get forward more often and use that wand of a left foot.And Gray said: “Anyone would want Jonah in their team. He doesn’t lose the ball, and he’s always on the ball.“He’s not a player who’s going to do two stepovers and beat someone, but he’s solid for us, and he’s getting to know what kind of positions I’m going to be in as well.“It’s obviously shown in the last few games with the chances he’s been creating for us.“It’s the same with Scotty (Arfield), Joey and (George) Boydy. I think that relationship is getting stronger game by game, and it always helps when we’re winning.”Jones is also enjoying linking up with Gray, who has given the Clarets another dimension going forward, with his pace and power.He said: “Since he’s come in, he’s added a lot to the team.“He’s a big threat, and for me, as a midfielder, gives you a different option.“He’s been good.”Gray has also added to the personality of the dressing room: “He’s a character, that’s for sure!“He seems a confident lad and seems a bit fearless, which is showing in his performances really.“He just goes out there. He’s fitted into our philosophy at the club, giving your all.“He works hard and deserves his reward at the moment.”Barton’s arrival has also invigorated the midfield, allowing Scott Arfield to revert to a wider role, scoring his first goal since January in the derby win at Blackburn Rovers, and Jones added: “Scotty played most of the first season out on the wing and a lot of last season. Only when Dean Marney got injured did he come inside, and he did a great job.“Joey’s come in and is probably more of a naturally sitting midfielder, whereas Scott is probably more of a winger and attacker, so it’s probably given us more security and more freedom for Scotty to express himself out wide.“With our formation, and the way that we play, Scotty has looked more of a threat.”
