Rachel Brown sits out Olympic opener

GOALKEEPER Rachel Brown was forced to watch from the sidelines as Team GB women kicked off London 2012 with victory over New Zealand.

The Burnley-born stopper was named on the bench at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff after coach Hope Powell opted to start Karen Bardsley in goal.

And the 32 year old’s rival for the number one jersey helped Great Britain get off to the perfect start, keeping a clean sheet in the 1-0 triumph over the Kiwis.

Powell’s side now take on Cameroon in Group E at the same venue tomorrow, with kick-off at 5-15 p.m.
