QPR have been linked with a £2.5m bid for the 24-year-old, but, after returning from the club’s training camp in Ireland, he trained yesterday at Gawthorpe and is expected to feature at Carlisle United tomorrow.

Joint-chairman John Banaszkiewicz said: “There’s nothing really to say - obviously Charlie was disappointed on the back of the Hull thing, but he’s still wearing the Burnley shirt. He’s trained very well with the team and played at Cork on Monday night.

“There has been some interest in him, but we would prefer to keep him if we can.

“We have had a few cheeky bids, but they’ve not been worth discussing - and the idea was for him to go to the Premier League if he is to leave.

“We’re still in the early stages of talking about a new contract, we want him to get his head down and see what happens. But he’s a good guy and a team player and I’d like to think we’ve looked after him.

“Hopefully we can work things out.”
