Premier League stats disprove Manchester United and Liverpool penalty theory - but support Burnley boss Sean Dyche's claims!

Despite the narrative of Manchester United getting more penalties than any other side, the Red Devils are only fourth on the list for most spot kicks per game, with Leicester City claiming top spot, according to new research.

The study, conducted by Paddy Power, revealed that Leicester have been awarded 53 penalties in 247 Premier League games over the last decade, giving the Foxes a total of 0.215 penalties per game – higher than any other club to ever feature in the top-flight since the start of the 2010/11 season.

Blackpool are a surprise second on the list, seeing referees point to the spot eight times during their one season in the division (0.211 per game).

United (0.187) are as low as fourth – despite the efforts of Bruno Fernandes and co – while cross-town rivals Manchester City are one place higher on the list with 83 penalties awarded in 400 games (0.203).

Meanwhile, the key Burnley findings from the study were:

1. The Clarets have been awarded 14 penalties in 206 games, which equates to 0.068 penalties per game.

2. Burnley have conceded 26 penalties in 206 games, which works out at 0.127 penalties per game.

3. Of their 14 penalties, 12 have been scored with a strike rate of 86%.
