Premier League nous is paying off for Clarets

Ben Mee believes Burnley’s experience in the top flight last season is serving them well as they bid for a return.

The Clarets sit third in the Championship after one defeat in 10 games, after transitioning well following relegation from the Premier League.

And, after helping win a second-successive derby at Blackburn on Saturday, Mee said: “We’re possibly a bit more experienced having been in the Premier League.

“I think a lot of the lads learnt a lot from last season.

“I’m definitely playing with a bit more experience of this league, that’s probably one of the main things I’ve noticed.

“I don’t think we’re playing in a different way, we’re still solid and get in behind teams. I don’t think the team has changed too much.

“But we can go to places and win, without being at our best again.

“It gives you a lot of confidence and I’m sure we’re going to improve on performances and the results will hopefully keep coming.”

The Clarets, worryingly for the rest of the division, are yet to hit top gear, but remain hard to beat and Mee added: “I think it’s our framework, as the gaffer would say, the way we play and how organised we are because that’s what you need to be in this league.

“If you don’t give teams too many chances the likelihood is they’re not going to take many.

“We got a little bit lucky on Saturday but you earn your luck over the season and it evens itself out.

“We know we’ve got to be better defensively possibly on a few occasions, but it was one of those – we nicked it and we’re really happy with it.

“Everyone’s on a bit of a high so we’ve been able to enjoy this moment.

“But we’ll move on and prepare for Huddersfield on Saturday.”
