The 22-year-old’s dedication on the training ground is certainly paying off after the defender netted his third goal in five games in the 2-1 victory over Bristol City at Ashton Gate.

The England Under 21 international towered above his marker in the 40th minute to power a header past Ben Hamer and in to the roof of the net from David Jones’s corner.

After moving to within a goal of the Championship’s most potent marksman Charlie Austin, the one-time Manchester United man said: “I didn’t realise it was a competition (with Ben Mee) but we’ve been practicing our heading for goal every Friday.

“I cross the ball in for him and he crosses them for me.

“I put it on a sixpence for him every time!

“As you can see it’s paying off and I hope it continues.

“We’ve got Jonah crossing for us sometimes. He’s telling us where he’s going to put the crosses and he got two assists today so it’s going well so far.”

Keane added: “If we can keep scoring goals from set plays it’s an added bonus really. We need to be a bit more fluid in our general play sometimes to create proper opportunities but it’s always good to score from set plays.

“It helps when defenders chip in with a few.

“It’s nice though I don’t expect it to last for long with the players we’ve brought in.

“Hopefully I can keep it up for a while.

“I’ve scored eight in a season before but that includes reserve football.

“In the Championship it’s been three so I’ve levelled it already.

“I’m not going to set a marker but hopefully I’ll get a few more.”
