Police warning ahead of Preston North End v Burnley FC clash

Preston North End and Burnley come together in the nPower Championship match with a big crowd anticipated as the Clarets have sold over 5,000 tickets for the match.

Officers are also asking supporters to ensure they take basic crime prevention measurers and not give criminals the chance to take advantage of people whileethey are at the match.

Fans are asked to make sure they lock their vehicles and leave no valuables on show as well as keeping personal belongings such as wallets and phones in front pockets as opposed to back. Bags should be kept closed and with you at all times.

Silver Commander Chief Inspector Matt Horn said, “Matches between these two clubs are always passionate affairs and the stakes are high with Preston looking to stay up and Burnley challenging for promotion. It should make for a great game and a fantastic atmosphere for all the family to enjoy.

“Historically the matches have generally passed off peacefully but for that small minority who are thinking of causing trouble then do not bother. We will not tolerate anyone causing disorder and spoiling the fun for other people.

“Given the large number of people attending the game then we would advise supporters to allow for more time to arrive at the ground. Roads will be busy in the area and especially at full time.

“Crime is low in Lancashire, especially car crime, but it is important that we don’t give criminals the opportunity to take advantage.
