Police praise for fans after Burnley FC v Blackburn Rovers match

BURNLEY Football Club’s eagerly awaited East Lancashire derby clash with arch rivals Blackburn Rovers passed off largely peacefully at Turf Moor.

The Clarets hosted their Championship rivals on Sunday and a huge policing operation was launched to keep disorder at a minimum inside and outside the ground.

To avoid any trouble in the streets, Blackburn Rovers supporters could only travel to the match on designated coaches which set off from their home ground of Ewood Park for the lunchtime kick-off.

Match commander Supt Terry Woods said: “I would like to thank the supporters for being patient, especially around travel arrangements.

“We said from the outset that the overwhelming majority of supporters of both teams are law abiding citizens who are passionate about supporting their football team. The operation was put in place to make sure that people could enjoy the occasion.”
