Point the least we deserved - Dyche

The Clarets trailed to a Jordan Rhodes goal heading into injury time, but Michael Keane snatched a point at the death from a Matt Taylor corner.

Burnley had probed throughout the second half, before falling behind 20 minutes from time, and Dyche said: “It was the least we deserved. The first half was a cagey affair, two good sides both trying to open each other up. But second half I thought we were very dominant.

“Its a shame a poor decision leads to a goal. I’ve seen it back, Rhodes crashes into Ben Mee, it’s not the other way round, but anyway, we should have dealt with that to be fair, we’re good at that.

“We didn’t, and it was probably their only effort - Adomah had one on the far stick, but we had so many, not so many chances, because they had so many blocks, which is an important part of the game. So credit to them for getting their bodies on the line, throwing everything at it.

“But it would have been an injustice if that ended 1-0 to them.”

Boro boss Aitor Karanka had said: “They scored because they decided to play long balls, and it’s difficult to understand with that squad to play long balls, but Dyche countered: “I’m not quite sure if everyone else saw it that way, but each manager is allowed their view, I have mine, but I think some of the quality of our football second half was excellent.

“I actually liked the calmness of the play because we didn’t do that, we shifted it, switched it, switched it and waited to get into the zone to try and affect them.

“When they’ve got 10 men around the box, you have to find a way of breaking that down, and eventually we did.”

Many would have thought Burnley’s chance had gone when a goalbound late Ashley Barnes effort was deflected wide off Danny Ayala, but the Clarets levelled from the corner: “Terrific, Matty goes and gets it, whips in a corner, we get a first or second contact and then Keano is on the spot. No disappointments, it was a blow because it’s going in the net if it doesn’t hit their lad on his back, but that’s the mentality we’ve shown.

“I was really pleased with the energy - outstanding. We ran all over them second half.

“Thats another big thing going into these games, we get stronger as the season goes longer, and that’s exactly what you saw, because we were very physically dominant with the legs in the side, and the quality.

“Credit to them for defending their box, they defended it virtually all second half.”

Burnley extended their unbeaten run to 20 league games in the process, showing that strong jaw again: “I think Ian Holloway gave the label to us, he told me that two years ago.

“We keep showing it, and eventually you think ‘yeah, we have a strong mentality’.

“That’s been on show, we have a resilience, we also have an effectiveness and some very good players.

“Some players, Joey Barton again, Dean Marney grew into the game, Ashley Barnes and Lloyd came on an affected it, Matty Taylor as he does, Vokesy again, there were so many good signs, but it’s parked, we move on to the next one.”
