This season marks the 100th anniversary of the Clarets being crowned English champions for the first time, with John Haworth’s side losing their first three games, before going 30 unbeaten, from September 1920 to March 1921.

That was the longest sequence of games any team had registered unbeaten in a single season.

That record was threatened by Liverpool in1987/88, as the Reds had a 29-game unbeaten start to the season - ended, ironically by Everton.

However, Arsenal finally bettered that mark, in their Invincibles season of 2003/04.

A plaque to mark Burnley’s achievement was specially commissioned in the 1930s, it is believed, and hung outside the manager’s office and tunnel under the Cricket Field Stand for some time.

It has not been on display for a number of years now, but has been cleaned up, ready to be shown off in the club’s new hospitality facilities, which will be unveiled soon https://www.burnleyexpress.net/business/consumer/turf-moor-super-box-promises-five-star-luxury-from-next-season-3215545Chairman Alan Pace explained in his programme notes for Monday night’s home game with West Ham: “Friday is a significant milestone for the club as we celebrate the centenary of Burnley being crowned English champions for the first time.

”To celebrate this landmark, the club has sympathetically restored a special plaque which was believed to have been made in the 1930s to celebrate the 1921 team’s 30-match unbeaten league run, a Football League record which stood until Arsenal’s invincible 2003-2004 season.

”The plaque has not been displayed at Turf Moor for several years but will now take pride of place in a special new lounge that will be opened as part of our wider renovation of hospitality facilities at the stadium.

”I look forward to sharing more about those plans in the future.”
