CELEBRITIES from the world of music, television and politics descended on Burnley for the charity Soccer Six tournament.

Turf Moor played host to scores of well-known faces as well as 6,000 fans who watched on from the stands.

Tony Blair’s former spin doctor, and prominent Clarets fan, Alastair Campbell was joined by fellow Burnley fan, actor Sam Aston from Coronation Street.

Teams from popular soap Hollyoaks, cult reality TV show Big Brother, as well as teen music favourites The Wanted and Plan B also took to the field.

There was even some Brazilian flair in the ample form of X Factor favourite Wagner.

Alastair Campbell said: “Surprisingly this is my first time actually playing on the pitch at Turf Moor. I have played at Wembley, Old Trafford and Stamford Bridge but this is definitely my proudest moment. The pitch feels great under my feet.”

Bacup actor Sam Aston, who plays Corrie’s Chesney, is also a season ticket holder at the Turf.

He said: “I come as a fan every week so it’s great to be playing and it’s good for Burnley to be hosting such a big event.”

Fans also managed to see the original Big Brother winner Craig Phillips. The cheeky scouser said it was his first visit to the town.

There can’t have been many fans of Brazilian football club Flamengo on the day, but X Factor singer Wagner didn’t let his side down.

He said: “I think it’s great to be here. I’m not really a football fan but I like Flamengo because of their beautiful colours! I like swimming, surfing and judo.”

Former Hollyoaks baddie Gemma Bissix, who also played Clare Tyler in Eastenders, was celebrating her 28th birthday.

The Chelsea fan said: “This is my first visit to Burnley but everyone’s been really friendly. I’ve been taking part in Soccer Six for years and I think I’m unbeaten. I’m a tough centre-half like John Terry!”

Coronation Street beauty Michelle Keegan watched from the sidelines as her boyfriend Max George from The Wanted proved why he once had trials with Preston North End.
